The Government Finance Officers Association recently announced that the City of Arkansas City has received GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, along with two special recognition awards.
The award represents the commitment of the City of Arkansas City and its staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, the City of Arkansas City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
• A policy document
• A financial plan
• An operations guide
• A communications device
For the City to receive the award, budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. This Is the 10th consecutive year the City has received this award.
In addition to the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City received two special recognition awards, one for Performance Measures and the other for Strategic Goals and Strategies. This Is the first time the City has received a special recognition award.
During the March 7 City Commission meeting, City Manager Randy Frazer presented the GFOA’s Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation to Jennifer Waggoner, Finance Director/Treasurer.
“When I was notified that not only did we receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for our budget book, but for the first time, we also received two special recognition awards, I was so excited. This is a goal I’ve been chasing for many years, and I am thankful for all the staff who put work into the budget book to make it a nationally recognized document,” Waggoner said.
There are more than 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients and their corresponding budget documents are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website.
