Beginning February 20 through March 3, the Arkansas City Police Department will join other law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma with increased enforcement near high schools to raise awareness of roadway safety.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States — ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence.
“Even one teen death is unacceptable,” Arkansas City Police Chief Eric Burr said. “Please slow down, put the phone away or turn it off, and always buckle up.”
ACPD officers will issue citations to any individual who refuses to obey the traffic laws, whether for speeding, texting, or failing to buckle up.
“We’d also like to remind teens that driving is a privilege. We encourage them to learn about the importance of driving safely,” Burr said.
If you have questions or concerns about this or any ACPD press releases, please contact Police Chief Eric Burr at (620) 441-6601 or email him at eburr@arkcity.org.
