UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS MONTICELLO ATHLETICS: Volleyball Drops Match against ECU

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Volleyball team came up short in their Thursday night showdown against Great American Conference foe East Central University. The Blossoms played three sets in the match, falling to the Tigers, 3-0.

UAM closes out the day with a 9-14 season record and a 3-7 GAC record on the 2022 season after the conclusion of Thursday.

The opening set began with UAM scoring the first point and going toe for toe with the Tigers for the first 11 points. With the Blossoms on top, 6-5, ECU responded with six straight points to take a 11-6 lead. Monticello was resilient, finding a five point series an a three point run to tie the match back uo at 16-16. A solid run from the Tigers would give them the advantage again, eventually taking the first set, 25-22.

The second set began in similar fashion to the first with UAM taking the first point and proceeding to go back-and-forth with the Tigers for the first 14 points. The Blossoms would take a two point lead and extend it to a thee point advantage with the score 12-9. A second wave of offense from East Central would flip the script after a 7-0 run. They would hold their foot on the gas peddle, eventually taking the set, 25-17.

Set three started with five straight points from the home team. After another 6-0 run from the Tigers, UAM began to string together multiple points throughout the remainder of the match. Unfortunately it was not enough as ECU would once again take the set. They would win the match 3-0 after a final score of 25-18 in set three.

Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with ten.

Mia Smalls contributed 18 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams who had 11 digs.
