Arkansas City issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.
Extreme grass fire danger will encompass much of the region Wednesday, due to above normal temperatures, dry conditions and very strong winds, according to @NWSWichita. Please avoid outdoor burning and be mindful of anything that can cause sparks.
A Red Flag Fire Warning and High Wind Warning are in effect today for the Arkansas City area. Expect sustained south winds of 25 to 35 mph and wind gusts of up to to 50 mph or more. There is a slight chance of late afternoon thunderstorm ahead of a cold front that will move through later tonight.
