ARKANSAS CITY: Thanksgiving Holiday Sanitation Pickup

Arkansas City issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.

The City of Arkansas City will shift to a three-day sanitation schedule this week due to the closure of all City offices Nov. 25-26 for Thanksgiving.

The Cowley County Landfill also will be closed Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving.

The F Street Limb Disposal and Compost Site will be closed Nov. 25-26 and will reopen Nov. 27.

The joint Arkansas City/Winfield Recycling Operations Center in Strother Field will be closed Nov. 26-27 in observance of Thanksgiving. (The joint recycling center will reopen for drop-offs from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4.)

All of Monday’s route and part of Tuesday’s route will be collected Monday, Nov. 22. The part of Tuesday’s route to be collected Monday is from Madison Avenue south to the Mill Canal, from Summit Street east to E Street and southeast through Sleeth Addition, and from Summit Street east to C Street between Birch Avenue and the C Street Canal. (Please see accompanying map for full detail of pickup areas.)

The remainder of Tuesday’s route, all of Wednesday’s route and part of Thursday’s route will be collected Tuesday, Nov. 23. The part of Thursday’s route to be collected Tuesday is from Birch Avenue north to Kansas Avenue and from Sixth Street west to 15th Street.

The remainder of Thursday’s route and Friday’s entire route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 24.

All refuse should be placed at normal pickup locations by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day of pickup. There will be no return pickups!
