University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.
An area vegetable production meeting is set for Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station on Hwy 1 South in Marianna, Arkansas. The meeting gets underway at 8 a.m. and will adjourn at 1 p.m.
Although aimed at commercial growers, gardeners are welcome. Representatives from the Farm Service Agency (FSA), Lee County and Forrest City District Conservation offices, the University of Arkansas (UofA) Research and Extension Centers in Keiser and Monticello, UofA Crop Science and Environmental Sciences Department, and University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) faculty and the Small Farm Program will share their expertise.
Topics to be discussed include agency updates; disease, insect and weed management; sustainable production practices for vegetable crops; and U.S. Department of Agriculture assistance to small business in agriculture. Dr. Yong Park, UAPB assistant professor of agriculture and entomology, is the luncheon speaker. He will discuss pollinators for vegetable crops.
