University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.
A vegetable production meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Jefferson County Extension Service building, 500 Idaho Street, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The meeting will get underway at 8 a.m. with registration, and sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. Although aimed at commercial vegetable producers, the meeting is open all interested parties.
Disease, insect and weed control in vegetable crops will be discussed. Vegetables covered include southern peas, okra, sweet potatoes, watermelons, greens and peppers. Information on U.S. Department of Agriculture loans that can be used for vegetable production as well as loans available specifically to vegetable producers will also be covered.
Because of the many vegetables and the vast depth of information available on them, the team of experts at the workshop will also be available to answer specific questions on any vegetable crop of interest to participants, said Dr. Henry English, head of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Small Farm Program. Those attending are requested to ask questions on their particular crop of interest even if it is one not discussed or covered in a session.
