The Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions baseball team achieved a decisive 12–0 shutout victory against Prairie View on April 12, closing their series with a strong performance and improving their season record to 10-5.
This result is significant for the Golden Lions as it allowed them to salvage the series finale and build momentum heading into the remainder of their schedule. The team’s pitching and offense both contributed to the comprehensive win.
Starting pitcher Ryland Morin led the effort by throwing a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits without issuing any walks and striking out three batters. Morin threw just 81 pitches, retiring Prairie View in order during four of seven innings, and improved his season record to 3-1 with this performance.
Offensively, Arkansas–Pine Bluff began scoring early, notching one run in the second inning before adding five more in the third. The team continued its offensive output with two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the seventh. Aaron Grant stood out at the plate by going 2-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored, and three RBI. Lazaro Alvarado also made key contributions by going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI—including a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning that extended UAPB’s lead.
Other notable performances included Nick Hockemeyer reaching base three times on two hits and two walks while stealing a base; Jose Vasquez hitting a double, stealing a base, driving in one run; Weston Gingerich adding an RBI bunt single; Ian Smith and Owen Gietzen each drawing bases-loaded walks; and Zach Wieder reaching base three times while scoring twice.
With this win behind them, Arkansas–Pine Bluff looks ahead to continuing their campaign after demonstrating both strong pitching depth and consistent offensive production.
