ARKANSAS CITY: Veterans Day Sanitation Pick Up

The City of Arkansas City will shift to a four-day sanitation schedule next week due to the closure of all City offices Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

The Cowley County Landfill will also be closed Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day. The F Street Limb Disposal and Compost Site will be open Saturday, Nov. 12.

The joint Recycling Operations Center in Strother Field will be closed Friday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 12. The joint recycling center will reopen for drop-offs from 8 a.m. to noon on Nov. 18-19, 2022.

Monday and Tuesday routes will be unaffected by this holiday disruption.

All of Wednesday’s route and part of Thursday’s route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The part of Thursday’s route to be collected Wednesday is from Birch Avenue north to Kansas Avenue and from Sixth Street west to 15 Street.

The remainder of Thursday’s and Friday’s routes will be collected Thursday, Nov. 10.

All refuse should be placed at normal pickup locations by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day of pickup.

There will be no return pickups.

A detainee at W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center died after a medical emergency on April 27. Staff provided immediate aid before transporting him for further treatment. An investigation into his death is underway.
